the story
I left a chain salon
and never looked back.
I spent eight years working in a busy chain salon in Christchurch — twelve clients a day, double-booked, finishing colour while starting somebody else's consult. I was good at my job. I was also tired, and rushing through work I knew could be better.
Wildflower started as a one-chair experiment in a converted shopfront in Nelson, in 2020. The idea was simple: see four guests a day, max. Take time. Let the colour breathe. Talk like humans. Drink the coffee while it's still hot.
Five years later it's still just me and one apprentice, still in the same shopfront, still booking out three weeks in advance. I'm never going back.

what to expect
Your visit, in five parts.
01
Tea and a chat
Fifteen minutes, no scissors. We talk about your hair, your life, what you actually want.

A proper consult
We look at the canvas — porosity, condition, your last six months of hair history.

The slow part
Colour is hand-painted, not rushed. Cut shapes are checked twice, in two mirrors.

The treatment
Scalp massage and a deep mask while the colour processes. This is the bit guests love.
05
Going home
A finished blow-dry, advice for caring for it at home, and a follow-up text two weeks later.
